For over a hundred years our charity The Whiteley Homes Trust has been supporting and caring for some of the most disadvantaged older people in Surrey, here at Whiteley Village. Like our NHS partners and all other housing and social care providers, we currently face financial and practical challenges on a scale none of us have ever experienced.
This global health emergency has created a perfect storm for our community. Key income from our events and venues has ceased, and our costs have surged – providing the amount of vital equipment needed to protect our staff (PPE) and paying for all the agency nurses and carers we need to continue providing services when our own staff become sick or have to self-isolate.
Can you help?
£10 – Could provide full PPE for one member of staff for one day whilst providing care to our residents.
£15 – Could ensure that our residents receive regular phone calls and contact with our support workers whilst dealing with loneliness and self-isolation.
£25 – Could allow us to continue provide a hot meal delivery service from our Clubhouse and delivery of essential items from our Village Shop during this critical time.
To enable our residents stay at home as much as possible we have also redeployed large numbers of staff and our many outstanding volunteers, to provide critical new support services. These include grocery deliveries from our Village Shop, medication collection from local pharmacies and home drop offs, and the option to buy a home delivered freshly cooked meal. In addition, our pastoral care and support services have worked tirelessly to combat the risks of loneliness and keep residents connected with friends and family. But these crucial services are costly to deliver, and I am increasingly concerned about the long-term impact on the Trust and the vital work we do.
Most of our c.450 residents have very limited resources, and many have no family close by – or at all and so for some, we are all they have. On their behalf I am asking for your support at this desperate time. So please give whatever you can – it will not only help us continue supporting and protecting our residents and our staff through this crisis, but will also help protect the future of our Trust and the precious legacy of our Founder William Whiteley, who shared our belief that everyone, irrespective of means, deserves a safe and comfortable home.

The Whiteley Homes Trust
“Helping at Whiteley began as a small way of thanking all of the wonderful people who are taking care of my mum who sadly lives too far away for me to currently visit. Since getting involved I have been overwhelmed by what an incredible and caring community this is. Everyone is working tirelessly to make life as safe and as normal as possible for all the people living at Whiteley and it is a huge privilege to be a small part of this process.” – Davina, Village Store Volunteer
