Volunteering at Whiteley

Volunteering at Whiteley Homes Trust

“I volunteer in the Care Centre and love every minute of my time there!
It is a happy cheerful place to work and spend hours in, and in beautiful country-like surroundings!
What more can one ask for?
– Colleen Howard

Whiteley Homes Trust’s Volunteer Programme engages more than 170 volunteers in a diverse range of roles and projects throughout the various departments in the Village.  The Trust recognises the importance of volunteers in helping to fulfill its mission and is committed to providing a rewarding and enriching experience for all its volunteers.

As a Whiteley Homes Trust volunteer you can expect to be supported and trained to carry out the role you undertake and to enjoy being part of a volunteer body, which is acknowledged and thanked for its amazing contribution.

All opportunities have flexible commitment requirements and aim to provide a great experience for all.

Some of the benefits of volunteering are:

  • Having fun and meeting new people
  • Experiencing a sense of pleasure from volunteering alongside Whiteley residents and staff and from the knowledge you are making a real difference to peoples lives
  • Learning and developing new skills, which increase personal satisfaction as well as possibly helping to develop career prospects
  • Enjoying the use of onsite facilities including: the shops, sports facilities, hydrotherapy pool, social club complex and various other locations which are available to hire throughout the village
  • Walking through the private estate surrounding the Village
  • Invitations to volunteer events and outings

Whiteley Homes Trust welcomes young volunteers.  Young people often like to use the skills they are developing at school, college or university to engage with and get to know our residents.  The Volunteer Department is pleased to work with schools and individuals to ensure the volunteer programme provides opportunities that benefit both Whiteley’s residents and the young people volunteering.

Miss Holiday Swing

“Thursday 13th of October saw the Village Hall decorated in a 1940’s theme with classic songs from the likes of Glenn Miller and Vera Lynn drifting into the evening. The inaugural Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was in full swing with a lovely night had by all. Miss Holiday Swing provided the fabulous music and Martin Weinling was the humorous Master of Ceremonies. As well as many Villagers who devote their spare time to volunteering, we also had representatives from our corporate volunteers and the Elmbridge Volunteer Centre there to celebrate the evening. Whiteley Village couldn’t run without all its volunteers, so we like to thank them wholeheartedly for all that they do to make the lives of our residents more fulfilling.” Jeanette Skeens-Read, Administration Volunteer

Arthur Mitchell was awarded one of Elmbridge Borough Council’s Long Service Volunteer Awards to celebrate and recognise his incredible support of the Elmbridge community. Arthur has volunteered at Whiteley House for over 18 years and visits around three times a week.  He is much loved by all the staff and residents who have the privilege of knowing him and we are delighted his contribution has been recognised.
