“What is exceptional is the hospitality and fun, support of self-determination and encouragement on self-reliance, and a sense of community between residents, staff and families” – Rt Hon Paul Burstow MP (former Minister of State, Dept of Health)
The Whiteley Homes Trust (registered charity 1103056) is dedicated to providing community, outstanding care and homes to 500 older residents of limited means who live in 262 Grade II listed almshouses, a 204 bed care home and 51 extra care apartments.
Every penny is important.
The Village is an example of excellent living accommodation, and a thriving and vibrant community consisting of two churches, a village hall, licensed club, shop and Post Office, library, hairdresser, laundrette and range of sports, leisure and social clubs.
This inclusive and self-sustaining community is the driving force behind all development plans and is the factor that differentiates the charity from any other providers in the Retirement Village sector.
The Trust recognises the challenges of providing this for an increasingly ageing population, and the charity is embarking on an ambitious plan to develop a new program of community living that could be replicated across the UK.
In the coming years the charity aims to test and implement innovative solutions to develop a new community-led care model. Underpinning this development is a clear understanding that a community built upon the principles of mutual support and activities that promote well-being will keep age related care and support needs to a minimum. This will help to drive down the costs of care in the long-term, vital to ensuring a self-sustaining care model for older people.
“The entire village is a revelation and I’m so thrilled for all of you living here. It makes such an immense difference to your lives” – HRH The Prince of Wales
