Welfare

A Welfare Department exists to support those in the Village who are deemed to be able to live independently. (Other villagers are supported by specialist staff in their particular location). Routinely open during office hours, our Welfare Department will also respond to crisis situations that arise “out of hours” .

Support from the Welfare Department comes in many forms, but may include:

  • Assistance with benefit claims
  • Arranging a community pendant alarm service
  • Signposting to Health and Social Services departments
  • Organising ‘flu injections
  • GP surgery visits for the frailer members of the community
  • Security and safety issues within the Village
  • Assistance in arranging property maintenance / repairs
  • Transport services within the Village, and assistance in booking hospital transport.
  • Regular visits to check on our frailer villagers (quarterly on the more able).
  • Organising social opportunities for those too frail to become involved in the many social groups that exist within the Village.

The Welfare Department also works closely with the various representative bodies that exist to ensure that the views of our villagers are considered in any decision making process. Therefore the Chairman of the Whiteley Village Advisory Committee, the Chair of the Whiteley Village Association, and the various democratically elected Section Representatives, are able to access the Welfare Team almost ‘on demand’.
