There are 31 traditional outdoor allotments available for those who wish to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
The allotments are roughly 6m by 6m (20ft x 20ft). There are water-taps and hosepipes and the soil is free-draining and easy to work.
Like allotment-holders everywhere members exchange plants, produce and gardening tips and help each other out when people are on holiday or unwell. The Allotments are managed, and allocated, by a committee elected from amongst its members.
For those who like gardening but can’t easily bend down or kneel, there is also the Whiteley Village Polytunnel where residents can grow plants under cover on one of the raised beds provided.
